Lessa

This is one of the paintings I did for the book The People of Pern, published by Donning in 1988. Anne McCaffrey wrote character descriptions of everyone who had appeared in her books about the world of Pern, and I painted pictures and drew drawings to go with them, based on Anne's descriptions. The original is an oil painting on masonite.

Lessa is the tiny (but incredibly strong) woman who started all of the stories, and who discovered that the Dragons could move Between times. She risked her life to bring Wings and Wings of Dragonriders out of the distant past to bolster the understaffed Weyrs and save her planet from certain destruction.

For this piece, Anne and I sat down and did what I describe as "Police Drawings." I would draw something, and Anne would say, "Good, now make her jaw a little sharper." until it was just the way she saw the character. I had a blast doing it!

We are out of the 11x14 size. I'm very sorry.

We are also offering a large print edition of Lessa It is also a photoprint, but it has an image area of roughly 18x24 inches (which makes it a touch larger than the original!) I am making them in a strictly limited edition of 25, also signed and numbered. They come bagged on a piece of foam-core as well, and are shipped flat, in a box. $150 + shipping and handling.
